Meet Dr. Khym B. Zarzuela

Medical Director

Dr. Khym B. Zarzuela, D.O., is an AARM (Age Management and Regenerative Medicine) Practitioner who has built his practice around whole-patient wellness through balanced hormones. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Western Reserve Care System in Youngstown, Ohio, and earned his medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. Before practicing medicine, he worked as a medical technologist at Parkland and St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, developing a firsthand understanding of the lab testing that anchors his approach today.

Dr. Zarzuela has practiced family and urgent care medicine since 1994 across Central and South Texas, including San Antonio, Austin, New Braunfels, and Floresville. In 2010, he discovered the benefits of bio-identical hormone replacement and the lasting impact it had on his patients. Hormone Wellness Centers of Texas was founded in 2011. Dr. Zarzuela finds that most of his patients are able to reduce or stop multiple medications, lose weight, sleep better, and restore their energy and vitality.

His philosophy centers on dedicating time to listen and understand each patient’s story, because lab work alone offers only a one-dimensional picture. With the support of his staff at the San Antonio and Austin offices, Dr. Zarzuela is committed to a supportive environment and compassionate care, guiding patients through a journey with natural, bio-identical hormones and a healthy life balance.

Our Mission - Empowering Your Natural Health Journey

At Hormone Wellness Centers of Texas, we see every patient as an individual with a unique biological story. While conventional medicine often reaches for pharmaceutical solutions, we focus on restoring your body’s natural hormone balance using bio-identical hormones that match what your body naturally produces. Our approach isn’t about adding more medications to your life. It’s about helping you reduce dependence on pharmaceuticals while addressing the root causes of hormonal imbalance. We guide you through a comprehensive journey that begins with detailed lab work and continues with ongoing monitoring and support. Your wellness becomes our shared mission, and we’re with you every step of the way as you reclaim your energy, mood, and vitality.

What Makes Us Different

Lab-Based Precision

Every treatment decision begins with comprehensive lab work and continues with regular monitoring. We recheck your levels within the first 6 to 12 weeks, then at regular intervals once you’re stable, adjusting your therapy based on your body’s actual response rather than generic protocols.

Bio-Identical Focus

We use only bio-identical hormones that match your body’s natural hormone structure. These plant-derived hormones have been safely prescribed by physicians for decades, offering a more natural path to balance than synthetic alternatives.

Whole-Patient Wellness

Your hormone journey is part of your overall wellness story. We consider how hormone balance works alongside nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle, and our patients often find that as their hormones optimize, they sleep better, manage weight more easily, and rely on fewer medications overall.

Our Personalized Approach

We understand that hormone imbalance affects every aspect of your life, from your energy levels and mood to your sleep quality and relationships. That’s why our approach goes beyond simply prescribing hormones. We start with comprehensive lab testing to understand your unique hormone profile. There is no single panel that fits everyone, so your provider selects labs based on your symptoms and history. This typically includes sex hormones such as estradiol, progesterone, and free testosterone, along with thyroid function. When your provider identifies a specific reason to look further, testing may also include metabolic or nutrient markers such as vitamin D and B12.

From there, we design a treatment plan specifically for your body’s needs. Whether you’re experiencing perimenopause, andropause, thyroid dysfunction, or unexplained fatigue, we work with you to restore balance naturally. Because your body’s response guides every decision, we recheck your levels within the first 4 weeks and then at regular intervals once you’re stable, adjusting toward the lowest effective dose that meets your symptom goals and keeps you there safely.

Our patients often find that as their hormones optimize, they need fewer medications overall, not more. This aligns with our core belief that the body has an incredible capacity for healing when given the right support.
